go walkies

Woweee, we have just come back from our brilliant and first ever Go Walkies sponsored dog walk in aid of Guide Dogs for Blind People.

We had a brilliant time and overall 5 dogs did the walk with their owners and friends. I made lots of new friends and they included:

  • Sabre (Bull Mastif/New Foundland X Breed)
  • Solo (Flat Haired Retriever)
  • Dusty (Spaniel)
  • Sally (Spaniel)
  • Faith (Golden Labrador)
  • Andy (Golden Labrador)

Faith and Andy came with their owners Lee and Jess and whilst Faith is a retired guide dog, Andy is a working dog and I was very pleased to meet them all. Solo is also a working dog and he just came along for a lovely walk with us.

The walk started at the Sankey Valley Visitors Centre in Blackbrook and we were guided along our walk by Dave Owen who works for St Helens council as part of the Ranger Service. Dave was great as he told us lots about the local bird and plant life and we even had a sniff of some wild garlic which was growing happily alongside the brook.

Our walk lasted just over an hour and all doggies and humans were very well behaved and we all even had a go of Grandma Dixon’s raffle when we got back as well as getting some cake from mum and some water from Dave the ranger. Woof Woof Woof.

The best part of all was that we raised nearly £300 to support Guide Dogs and we couldn’t be happier – especially since it was grey and horrible this morning, but it didn’t rain one drop on our walk. :) Wanna see our photos…

Well I have had an exciting day today – well when I say exciting I mean interesting, well well I say interesting I mean, tiring… OK, OK, you dragged it out of me, I am poorly again. I don’t know what it is, maybe it’s the grass I sneakily eat or the funny things I smell or tread in on walks, but I have got a dicky tum again. I am sure that some of more inquisitive pups out there would like gory details, but lets just say this: poo bags were of NO use whatsoever. Yuk squared.

But, never the less, my pack and I went for a walk today to Sankey Valley visitors centre in Blackbrook to try and meet the ranger who is going to be guiding our walk next week for “Go Walkies”. Unfortunately our mate Dave wasn’t there, so we just met a lovely lady ranger. This is where the walk is going to be setting off from next Saturday and if you want to come, you can find more details on the Go Walkies section of my blog. Don’t I look cool in front of the sign though?!

Gran

Woo Hoo, Great Grandma Jessie is finally home from hospital. She went in an ambulance last Saturday morning, but thankfully she is all mended now and mum doesn’t even have to pay the vet bill or anything – Woof Woof.

It worked out quite well really, as mum was off work today and even though she just lolled on the couch with me and didn’t do her tidying up, we still had a tip-top day. TWO parcels came for dad and because I am getting a bit deaf I didn’t even hear the man knock at the door the 2nd time…

Anyway, tomorrow we are going to see the Rangers about the Go Walkies sponsored dog walk next weekend. Brillo Pads & bring it the woof on! xxx

I was so shocked by my dad’s lovely generosity this afternoon, that I had to send him a special doggy telegram…

Too see how cool my dad is, or to give yourself, go to http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/peggydog.

I have just been having a chat with mum and she told me about all the events that her and dad have signed up for. Some they are doing for Charity and some they are just doing for fun and top be honest, I am exhausted just thinking about it. I have kind of  agreed to do one event with mum, both other than that , I mainly participate in a coaching capacity…. So are you ready to hear what they are doing?

1st – Cancer Research Shine (Walking) Marathon, 1st May 2011

This is a marathon that mum and dad are WALKING through the night in Manchester. This is the thing we are all currently training for and that nearly broke me last Sunday. (8 miles is offically my limit). You can sponsor my mum and dad by clicking on this lovely badge:

2nd – Bupa Great Manchester 10k Run, 15th May 2011

Mum and dad have done this a few times now and they always really enjoy it. One year, Usain Bolt ran in a 100m race aty this event, but dad reckons he could well beat him, no worries. They are not doing this for charity, but just to keep them fit and as a personal challenge, (and so they can eat lots of cake when they have finished). Woof Woof.

3rd – Go Walkies Sponsored Dog Walk, 28th May 2011

This is a sponsored dog walk that mum, dad and I are organising in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind. It starts at Sankey Valley Visitors Centre (Map) and I can’t wait. Why not check out the GoWalkies section of my blog for further information or to sign up.

4th – Haydock Race for Life, 24th July 2011

This the race that started everything off  for my mum and this is the one I am going to do too. It’s a 5k race around Haydock Park racecourse in aid of Cancer Research and people dress up and it’s great fun. If you want to, you can support us, by clicking on this lovely pink button:

5th – Adidas Thunder Run, 30th July 2011

This is the last thing mum and dad are signed up for and by far the most scary. It’s a continual 10k race, where we have a team of 8 competitors who relay doing 10k laps. Someone has to be on the track for a full 24 hours and endurance is the name of the game. Dad says we have to take a tent and camp, but it will be an adventure. Woof Woof. If you feel mad enough to enter, why not have a look here first. Thunder Run.
