What an interesting evening we have all had here at dogblog den. It started fairly ordinarily enough with us having our tea followed by mum taking me all on the field (as per usual). But then it all went a bit mental…… As we were walking around the field a white Siberian Huskie came over to say Hello. It was OK at first and I said hello back, but to be honest it was getting a bit aggressive with me and mum had to shoo it away. However, it wouldn’t take no for an answer and kept coming back – so mum made friends with it and her own inimitable way and put her on my brilliant lead.
Mum brought the dog home and dad gave it a drink of water as it seems a bit stressed. Now I don’t mind other dogs coming home, but I wasn’t too keen that mum and day were playing with it, mum said I was a bit “jealous” but I am not sure what that means.
Anyway, mum & dad decided to take the dog back onto the field to see if the owner was looking for it, mum rang millions of places to see if they could get hold of a dog warden or vet to help then look after the dog or find it’s owner. After an hour or so of trying with no luck they were all out of ideas and more or less resigned to keeping our new friend overnight when a wonderful thing happened…. the owner came running towards us!!
“Skye! Skye!” she shouted and we were all very relieved. Sky is apparently is apparently a bit of an escapologist and her owner had already found a new family as she is a bit too giddy and good at escaping for a busy family and a working mum. So we handed Sky back over to a very grateful mum and we all came home a bit tired but very happy.
Just so you can see, here is a lovely picture of Skye, along with the hay-fever tortured eyes mum developed after walking around the field for hours!! Woof Woof.

I'm lost...
Do you know who this dog belongs to? We found this dog in Cooper Lane in Haydock at 13:30 on Sunday 18th January 2009. If you think you recognise her, please contact peggy@haydockdogblog.co.uk as soon as possible. Thank you.
UPDATE
I am pleased to report, that after speaking to the PDSA this morning, Holly has been reunited with her family. YAY!!

Hi there dog blog readers, this is Peggy’s mum and I am just borrowing Peggy’s blog to tell you about the eventful day that we have had. This afternoon about 13:30 Peggy’s dad Michael and I were getting in the car to go out for lunch when Michael spotted a small grey dog on the payment just further down than where we were. See below for what happened next:
13:30
We went over to the dog to see if was OK, it looked like a Shih-Tzu and definitely not the type of dog that should be wandering the streets. It was uninjured, so we hung onto it’s collar for couple of minutes to see if anyone turned up to claim it. Whilst we were waiting, I knocked on a house opposite as their gate was open, so see if it belonged to them, no luck.
13:40
As it was freezing, we decided to take it into our house and contact the dog wardens etc to see if we could get someone “official” to come and collect it. We thought that it was boy (without properly checking) as it kept lifting it’s leg to wee outside, so I nicknamed him George.
We actually couldn’t manage to get hold of anyone. The local vets in Haydock was closed, the police don’t actually take dogs anymore, there was no answer from St Helens Council dog warden and the closest dog warden 118 118 would give us the number for was Huyton
13:50
We decided to take “George” out on a walk around the vicinity to see if a) anyone local recognised him or b) we may bump into the worried owners who might be looking for him. So we walked around for the next 45 mins or so, asking passers by if they recognised him – no one did, and knocking on doors suggested by passers by of people that owned Shih-Tzus, but all their dogs were safe and sound and no-one recognised George. So we took him home.
14:45
As a last straw, we rang our local vet again and took the number of the emergency vet. “George” was not wearing a name tag, but was wearing an Identichip tag (which means his details are recorded in a microchip which was inserted under his skin) and vets have the equipment to check things like this. We rang the emergency vets which turned out to be a PDSA clinic in Huyton who said they would scan the dog free of charge.
14:55
So after trying George with a drink and a biscuit (both of which he refused), we all got in the car and went down the East Lancs Road. George seemed very familiar with the car and jumped straight onto Michael’s knee in the passenger seat. This was a little foreign to us, as Peggy is normally a back seat dog, but as George was a newcomer, we let him off.
15:15
We arrived at the PDSA no problem (thank you Tom Tom) and took George in. There were a couple of people waiting with their poorly pets, but we did get seen really quickly. The vet nurse checked George’s chip and quickly found out that George was in fact a 3 year old girl, called Holly and her home address was Wigan! The vet nurse (Erin) called the registered number for Holly, but there was no answer. So unfortunately, we had to leave Holly with the PDSA and they said they would try everything they could to return her to her owners, but otherwise they would hand her over to the St Helens Council dog warden service in the morning.
I felt really sad leaving her behind, as when we took her into the vets room she starting shaking. It’s not as if you can give her a pep talk “It’s OK Holly, I am going to leave you with this nice lady and she will find your mum for you”. Poor Holly just wonders why she isn’t in her own living room, getting a chew stick.
17:45
Michael has just called the PDSA in Huyton to see if we could get an update, but despite leaving a message on the answering machine of the owners, they hadn’t heard anything. This probably means that Holly will stay in their care until tomorrow when the dog warden service will probably take over. Poor Holly
I will keep this post updated and let you know any news, as soon as we know. However, click on this link to see if you recognise her and email us immediately at peggy@haydockdogblog.co.uk. Thank you x
