Here’s everything you need to know about Haydock, but if you want to know about Peggy, click here

Haydock is – or used to be a village in the North West of England. It has grown considerably over the last 30 years and is now better described as a suburb of St Helens. According to Wikipedia it has a population of 11,962, it’s inhabitants are nicknames “Yickers” and the name Haydock is derived from the Celtic heidd, meaning “barley, wheat”.

However having lived here for 5 years this year, I can tell you that it is a very nice place to live. All my mum’s family live in Haydock and have done for many many years. It used to be a thriving industrial village which consisted of the workers of the surrounding coal mines, but nowadays, whilst it still houses lots and lots of families and their descendants from that time, it has become far more eclectic in its inhabitants – including me!

There are lots of lovely places to go for a dog walk in Haydock and I think I have tried most of them out. There are trails and footpaths that lead to Haydock’s part of the Sankey Navigation, there is King George’s Park and even the “New Road” and East Lancs Road which are all popular to dog walkers. It’s about half way between Liverpool and Manchester which also means that most of the North West’s parks and green spaces are usually less than a hour away – we are very lucky.

If you would like photographic proof of how cool our walks can be, follow this link to see some lovely pictures of us on one of our local walks

I hope this answers some of your questions, but if you do have anything you would like to add or ask, please email peggy@haydockdogblog.co.uk .
